FTC Clothing Guidelines: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!
Do Not Wear:
- Blue (any shade)
- Olive khaki (beige khaki is okay)
- Camouflage (of any color)
- Pink
- Lime green
- Burgundy
- Yellow
- Orange
- Tank tops
- Baseball-style jerseys
- Hoodies
- Shorts
- Sweatpants or athletic pants
- Bras with underwire (for metal detector)
- Sandals or heels
- Excessive jewelry
- Sexually suggestive clothing
- Anything with logos or symbols
Do Not Bring:
- Anything except your driver’s license!
- This includes:
- Scarves, head pieces, wigs, hats
- Back pillows
- Wallets
- Money
- Phones and electronics (Apple watches included.)
- Gum/special snacks
Helpful Tips:
- Bring layers! Gym could be hot or cold.
- Check the weather ahead of time and plan accordingly!
- For rain, you can have a compact umbrella with no point on the end.
- But only bring what can carry on your person.
- Dress casual!
- Wear the minimum amount of jewelry you can!
- Double-check for your specific prison’s guidelines!
Prison-Specific Clothing Guidelines: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!
California Institution for Women (CIW)
Corona, CA
Regular rules plus:
- NO gray (pants or tops)
- NO white (pants or tops)
- NO athletic-type pants of any kind!
California Men’s Colony (CMC)
San Luis Obispo, CA
Regular rules plus:
- NO underwire bras
- NO blue or gray denim (pants or tops)
- NO tight pants like leggings
- NO undershirts or athletic shirts worn as outerwear
- NO revealing sleeveless garments (including transparent)
- NO backless shoes or slippers
- NO military fatigues
- Pants/Skirts should NOT be more than 3 inches above the top of the knee cap
Also, If anyone is on medication. Only bring dosage needed for that day.
Central California Women’s Facility (CCWF)
Chowchilla, CA
Regular rules plus:
- NO chapstick, lipstick, lip balm, or gloss of any kind!
- NO bracelets of any kind!
- Black & colored denim is allowed (absolutely NO blue denim)
Folsom State Prison (FSP)
Represa, CA
Regular rules plus:

Substance Abuse Treatment Facility & State Prison (SATF)
Corcoran, CA
Regular rules plus:
- NO headbands or head scarves
- NO clothing resembling medical scrubs
- Please limit the amount of jewelry you’re wearing (as there’s extra airport-quality security scanning at SATF).
Valley State Prison (VSP)
Chowchilla, CA
Regular rules plus:
- Gray clothing is allowed
- Black & colored denim is allowed (absolutely NO blue denim)
