“The greatest value I received in the workshop is the clarity of accepting the truth of my inner feelings, taking ownership of my mistakes, and understanding what I need to do to improve and better my future.”
For the past 15 years, The Freedom to Choose Project (FTC) has offered award-winning rehabilitative programs – based on spiritual psychology– to nearly 4,000 individuals in 5 California prisons.
We help break the cycle of recidivism & empower incarcerated individuals to become thriving members of society. Your financial support allows us to bring these life-changing tools to those who need it most.
Every donation matters. Any amount helps.

“I was a crazy teenager and now I’m a woman who is growing and changing because of you.”
In a big show of confidence, the state of California recently awarded FTC with 2 grants, helping us scale and grow our impact by taking on 2 new prisons. With the grants for our 3 other prisons set to expire, we’re inviting our incredible community of stakeholders to provide the financial support needed to build on our momentum and help us meet the growing demand for our services.
In 2020, we’re expanding to offer 2x the number of prison projects than ever before. That’s 2 weekend workshops per prison, each supported by over 50 volunteers. We’ll also offer weekly integration classes to support the ongoing training of our participants.
Each weekend prison projects costs us approximately $63 per inmate (with up to 200 inmates in attendance). Next year, offering 10 of these projects will cost us $250,000— plus the costs of the weekly classes.
To help us cover the expense of our expanded programming for 2020, we need to raise a minimum of $300,000. Ideally, we’ll raise more than that (upwards to $500,000) to allow us to prepare to expand into even more prisons in 2021.
“The workshop that the volunteers facilitated this weekend was life-changing. I was able to learn new skills that were never taught to me in school, or other self-help programs. Please know that your efforts will continue to be paid forward.”
“The greatest value I received were new processes to practice to improve my life and those around me. I always leave FTC workshops with new energy and a better understanding of myself.”
“The Freedom to Choose Project has completely changed how I perceive life. No longer am I an audience member just reacting to life’s twists and turns, I am a participant. I now choose how I endure hardships and see how they are merely opportunities to grow as a person. Today I am able to see the best in everything and everyone only because I choose to.”
“I can honestly say that this workshop has opened my eyes to a new way of living… Thank you Freedom to Choose for the new life!”
“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances.”
