Celebrate our 15-Year Anniversary with us! Donate to our 2019 year-end campaign today.

In case you missed our notification last week, we wanted to send you a gentle reminder that we’re now enrolling volunteers for 2 of our fall prison projects.

If you’d like to volunteer at one (or both!) of the prisons we serve in Chowchilla, CA, we invite you to do that between now and Sunday, July 28.

(Have questions? Scroll down to read our FAQ.)

These two prisons include:

  • Valley State Prison (VSP), a men’s prison: September 27-29, 2019
  • Central California Women’s Facility (CCWF), a women’s prison: October 25-27, 2019

General Schedule for Both Weekends:

“One Accord” Gathering (in person): Friday night

Pathways to Freedom Workshop: Saturday & Sunday

Volunteer Enrollment Deadline: Sunday, July 28, 2019

These prisons are right across the street from one another, and are the ones we’ve been serving the longest! Even if you’re coming for the very first time, returning for these weekend prison projects always feels like “coming home” for our volunteer community.

To enroll, please “submit your intention” for volunteering at VSP here and/or CCWF here

(By “submitting your intention,” you’re committing to being present for the entire project–from Friday night orientation to the end of the workshop Sunday.)

Q: What’s the schedule at these weekends?

A: We have an opening “One Accord” gathering, starting at 4:30pm on the Friday of each weekend. Then, our Pathways to Freedom workshop is all-day Saturday and Sunday (approximately 6:30am-5:00/6:00pm).

Q: Where do we stay?

A: We stay at the Hampton Inn & Suites in Madera. It’s a short drive to the two prisons and very comfortable spot that feels very much like home to all of us! When you enroll to volunteer, we’ll send you all the details you need to book your room (at a special reduced rate). And a yummy breakfast is included!

Q: Will I be available to share a room or a ride with another volunteer?

A: Absolutely, when you enroll to volunteer, we’ll send you more details about how to get in touch with other volunteers to coordinate ride and room sharing.

Q: What should I wear…and eat…when I’m in prison?

A: We’ve been leading weekend workshops like these for the past 15 years and like to think we have things pretty dialed-in for our volunteers at this point! Not to worry, we’ll send you all the details you need about food, wardrobe (and more) when you enroll to volunteer.

Q: What if I have a question not answered here?

A: Email us, we’re happy to help!

Remember….the last date to enroll to volunteer at both of these prison workshops is one week from today– Sunday, July 28.

Register for VSP (men’s prison) here and/or CCWF (women’s prison) here now.

We can’t wait to see you there!
